Diagnostics and treatment of the early neoplastic lesions attract attention of all endosopists nowadays. New technologies are developed and everyone strives for optimal technique of scanning large areas of the mucosa and searching for possible neoplastic lesions by means of highlighting suspected spots. Chromoendoscopy could be very helpful in this field. It is affordable, accessible and feasible. Many stains have been tried out through the years. However, only some of them proved to be usable in daily practice – Lugol´s solution, indigo carmine, Congo red, methylene blue and acetic acid. In spite of its similar effect the last-mentioned...

Barrett´s oesophagus (BE) is a well-known premalignant condition that can be associated with the developement of dysplasia and adenocarcinoma. Early diagnosis of neoplastic lesions arising in BE has become more frequent as a result of improved endoscopic technology, sureveillance programmes and increasing experience and awareness on the part of endoscopists. In the past, esophagectomy was the standard treatment for patients with BE with early cancer and high-grade dysplasia. In recent years endoscopic resection has become increasingly important, both as a diagnostic tool for staging and as a method of definitive treatment followed by ablation of residual...

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most prevalent malignancy with good prognosis in case of early diagnosis and treatment. Approximately 70 % of CRCs develope through adenoma–carcinoma sequence, whereas 30 % probably develope without previous adenomatous precursors, de novo. Colonoscopy with techniques of endoscopic polypectomy and mucosal resection plays a major role in the secondary prevention of CRC by the interruption of adenoma–carcinoma sequence. Moreover, it is essential in the diagnosis and treatment of early CRC. In this paper the authors inform about endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of superficial colorectal neoplasia...

Aim: The aim of the paper is to present our own experience with endoscopic treatment of early stomach cancer. Patient cohort and method: Twenty-two consecutive patients treated in the years 2000–2009 are presented. Results: A total of 13 (59 %) patients underwent treatment with endoscopic mucosal resection or endoscopic submucosal dissection, out of whom three (14 %) were subsequently operated on electively. In a total of nine (41 %) patients, endoscopic treatment was considered to be curative. Seven (32 %) patients were indicated for primary surgical treatment, a total of ten (45 %) patients were eventually operated on. Two patients were...

The Czech Republic is among countries with a low incidence of spinocellular carcinoma of the oesophagus, a condition usually diagnosed at an advanced stage. Patients with head and neck tumours are at a higher risk for this disease. The authors present a group of 119 patients with head and neck tumours in whom a total of five synchronous and metachronous neoplastic lesions in oesophageal squamous epithelium were found using chromoendoscopy with Lugol‘s solution; a patient with severe dysplasia was then successfully treated with endoscopic resection. Chromoendoscopy of the oesophagus using Lugol‘s solution in risk groups of patients appears...

Transurethral resection of bladder cancer (TURB) is the initial and critical step in the management of bladder tumors. The optimal outcomes can be achieved by systematically and meticulously performed procedure by well trained urologist. The TURB should be performed with modern equipment including new telescopes and video systems. Moreover, urologists should be aware of promising innovations including new imaging techniques (fluorescence cystoskopy or narrow band imaging) and their possible benefits. The risk of tumor persistence and understaging can be in selected cases reduced by re-TUR.

We demonstrate a case report of a patient with an uncommon finding of primary neuroendocrine carcinoma in the male urethra. Primary neuroendocrine tumor in this area is rare, there are only three cases described in the literature. We treated this case by endoscopic transurethral ablation with holmium laser.
