The paper evaluates our initial experience with robotic kidney surgery, particularly that with kidney tumour resection. At our centre, the da Vinci S HD robotic system by Intuitive Surgical is used. The first surgery was performed on 19th August, 2008, and by 1st May, 2011 a total of 67 kidney surgeries have been carried out, out of which 42 were surgeries for kidney tumour. The paper evaluates the total surgery time, intraoperative as well as postoperative complications, histological outcomes and length of hospital stay.

Objective: Assessment of behaviour of the upper urinary tract urothelial carcinomas. Methods: Retrospective analysis of records between January 1996 and January 2010. One hundred and twenty one patients were assessed. Results: There were 22 (18.2 %) patients with clinical stage 0a, 29 (24 %) with I, 12 (9.9 %) with II, 37 (30.6 %) with III and 21 (17.3 %) with IV. There were 27 recurrences and 1 disease progression, 3 year recurrence free survival was 63.2 %. Cancer specific survival and overall survival at 3 years was 80.3 % and 73.7 %. Conclusion: Substantial proportion (47.9 %) of patients presented with locally advanced or metastatic...

Local chemoprophylaxis of noninvasive bladder tumors has been used for more than 40 years. Several agents are used, with the most common including mitomycin C (MMC) and epirubicin. Opinions on therapeutic strategies vary. Based on EBM, on the contrary, it is evident that adjuvant administration of cytotoxic drugs into the bladder prolongs the tumor-free interval. The paper presents long-term experience with intravesical chemoprophylaxis of superficial bladder tumors.

Treatment of neurogenic detrusor overactivity using botulinum A toxin is the first option for patients refractory to anticholinergic drugs. This study is aimed on new way of administration – submucosal application. Material and Methods: 10 patients with neurogenic detrusor overactivity after spinal cord injury in age between 19 and 39 years. Treatment was performed by cystoscopic application 300 U of Botox®. The drug was administered submucosaly. Evaluation of urodynamic parameters and voiding diary were done before and 12 weeks after treatment. Results: Three months after treatment maximal cystometric capacity increased from 212.2±84.2...

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration is an endoscopic method of sampling pathological structures within gastrointestinal wall or adjacent organs using aspiration needle under endosonographic control. Main indications include: masses and lymphadenopathy in posterior mediastinum, oesophageal and gastric submucosal tumors as well as intramural processes of unclear etiology, nodal staging of pulmonary, oesophageal and gastric cancer, unclear focal lesions in the pancreas and left lobe of the liver. Rapid on-site cytopathology increases diagnostic accuracy of EUS-FNA. The method is safe with the incidence of complications in less...

of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) The term endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) -guided biopsy includes EUS-guided fine needle aspiration and EUS-guided trucut biopsy. Both methods are being used for diagnosing pathological processes within gastrointestinal wall and adjacent organs with the aim to establish a tissue diagnosis, necessary for subsequent treatment. A group of international experts has made clinical guidelines of European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy on EUS-guided sampling in gastroenterology and these guidelines are presented in this text. Discussed are also results of EUS-guided sampling in different clinical situations,...

A case of 67 years old man with asymptomatic cyst in the head of pancreas is presented. The pancreatic cyst was found incidentally in 2007 but no further exploration was performed. The lesion was found again 2011 and subsequent detailed examination revealed branch duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm, histologically borderline tumour. The case report emphasizes a necessity of examination and follow-up of all pancreatic cystic lesions, even they are asymptomatic.

Objective: From 1995 to 2007, we performed 101 laparoscopic surgeries for stage I to stage IV achalasias with three types of antireflux procedures: anterior Dor, posterior Toupet and circular Nissen-Rossetti (NR); in stage IV, myotomy alone was performed. Various antireflux procedures were carried out depending on the stage of achalasia, presence of hiatal hernia, shape and location of the hiatus and size of the gastric fundus. The study aims at determining the long-term outcomes including subsequent gastroesophageal reflux after laparoscopic surgery. Method: All the patients operated were sent GIQLI (Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index)...

There is a notecable change particularly in last two decades in treatment of Zenker´s diverticulum. It has moved from classic external approach to endoscopic method which is characterized by section of cricopharyngeal muscle using endoscopic-microscopic control and most often CO2 laser. In comparison with operation from external approach, endoscopic technique is connected with larger comfort for patiens, lower risk of complications and comparable success rate. Endoscopic therapy of Zenker´s diverticulum should be a common part of surgical procedures in modern department of otorhinolaryngology.

Study purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on the subjective perception of health-related quality of life in women. Methods: The research sample consisted of 26 women after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. A standardized questionnaire to measure health-related quality of life WHOQOL-BREF was used for data collection. All women completed a questionnaire three times: 1 month before surgery, 3 and 6 months after surgery. Results: Before surgery, women with morbid obesity (especially up to 45 years) showed statistically significant lower health-related quality of life through psychological...
