of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE)
The term endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) -guided biopsy includes EUS-guided fine needle aspiration and EUS-guided trucut biopsy. Both
methods are being used for diagnosing pathological processes within gastrointestinal wall and adjacent organs with the aim to establish
a tissue diagnosis, necessary for subsequent treatment. A group of international experts has made clinical guidelines of European Society
of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy on EUS-guided sampling in gastroenterology and these guidelines are presented in this text. Discussed are
also results of EUS-guided sampling in different clinical situations, the impact of the technique on subsequent management of patients
and recommendations on the use of the method depending on specific clinical situation.
