Endoskopie 2009; 18(2): 67-71
This article represents overview of endoscopical techniques in the treatment of vestibular schwannoma which ist the most common
neoplasm in neurootology. Endoscopy-assisted microsurgery represents modern trend of surgical treatment of this tumors with broader
application during the last years only. Angled optics, magnification and illumination enable superior view in the operative field. Endoscopy
is valuable for assesment of radicality of resection in the region of internal auditory meatus. Improved information about critical
structures and tumor itself helps the surgeon to preserve facial nerve and in selected cases also hearing. These techniques can help to
decrease incidence of postoperative complications (e. g. cerebrospinal fluid leaks). It is expected that growing experience with endoscopic
surgical technique represents step forward to minimally invasive pure endoscopic surgery of vestibular schwannoma.
