Endoskopie 2008; 17(3): 55-58
Aim: To present our experience with relatively new and quickly spreading bariatric operation.
Material and methods: In the time period from 1. 10. 2006 to 31. 7. 2008 46 sleeve gastrectomies were performed. Description of our
operative technique is presented together with our results in the two years follow up.
Results: In the presented group there were 30 female and 16 male. Mean age in the group was 46,5 year. Preoperative mean weight was
128,5 kg. It means average BMI 44,2 kg/m2. There were four early complications observed. Two patients were reoperated on for bleeding.
In one case two reoperation were necessary for fistula in the resection line. Mortality was zero. The weight reduction was satisfactory.
Mean weight decreased to 93 kg (BMI = 33 kg/m2) in one year follow up. Mean excess weight loss (% EWL) was 51 %.
Conclusion: Sleeve gastrectomy seems to be good method for the group of patients, whose cooperation seems to be in doubt. Inspite
of observed complications considered as beginners tax, our experience seems to be encourageous. We hope, that consequent analysis
of complications and the lessons learned from it, could lead to precising of the method in our department.
