Endoskopie 2011; 20(2): 57-61
Introduction: Authors reviewed series of endoscopic transnasal operations performed for pathology in sellar region.
Methods: Between March 2007 and December 2010 sixty five endoscopic transnasal operations were performedin our clinic. We provided
55 operations for pituitary adenomas, 8 operations for non-pituitary leasions, 1 patient was operated for Rathke’s cleft cyst and two
patients were operated for spontaneous CSF leak.
Results: Total removal was achieved in 75 % of patients with non-functioning pituitary adenomas and in all patients with functioning
adenomas and meningiomas. Subtotal removal was performed in 1 patient with craniopharyngeoma and 1 patient with orbital tumor.
Both patients with spontaneous CSF leak were also solved endoscopically. Complications were present in 6 patients in our series. 3
patients were re-operated for postoperative CFS leak. Diabetes insipidus was present postoperatively in 3 patients, and persisted permanently
in 1 patient.
Conclusion: Today, endoscopic transnasal approach is a safe miniivasive method for pituitary adenomas removal. Other skull base
leasions can be operated by experienced surgical team.
