Aim: To compare laparoscopic gastric resections in the world and in the Czech Republic.
The author presents a short history of laparoscopic gastric surgeries, an overview of the most commonly indicated procedures, and the
criteria for indication, mentions necessary technical equipment, evaluates the pitfalls and benefits of laparoscopic resections, and reflects
on the options of and criteria for performing these procedures in the conditions of the Czech Republic.
Conclusion: Laparoscopic resection has become an alternative to open resection. Given the small number of these procedures, it is advisable
to refer both laparoscopic and open resections and surgeries for gastric cancer to specialized centres.
